Here are some snacks from South Asia:

NEPAL SNACK

SHERPA POPCORN SNACK


INGREDIENTS:

4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup uncooked popcorn
Sugar

TO PREPARE:

1.         Pour oil into a large pan. Turn heat to medium high and wait 30 seconds. Add popcorn kernels and cover the pan.

2.         Shake the pan until you hear the kernels stop popping.

3.         Remove the pan from heat. Remove cover, being very careful of the escaping steam. Pour popcorn into a large bowl.

4.         Sprinkle sugar over the popcorn like some Sherpa kids do.

Makes 8 cups of popcorn.

Kids who live in the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal don’t cook popcorn on stoves or in microwaves. They cook it over wood or coal fires in big pots!
